George Soros-backed Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price (D), who faces an upcoming removal election over her soft-on-crime policies, has refused to cooperate with lawyers for California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, according to a letter obtained by the Department of Justice. Daily Caller News Foundation.
Earlier this year, Governor Newsom’s office announced it would help address Oakland’s pervasive crime crisis by adding more law enforcement officers and hiring more attorneys to prosecute violent crimes. Blaze News As previously reported, the governor’s office claimed in a press release that the “new partnership” will “strengthen our ability to prosecute suspects involved in violent crimes, serious drug-related crimes, and property crimes, including burglary and auto theft, in the Oakland and East Bay areas.”
“We decided to shift those resources.”
“This partnership will provide additional Deputy Attorneys General from the California Department of Justice and California National Guard attorneys to strengthen our ability to prosecute suspects arrested for serious and complex crimes in Alameda County,” the statement said.
Governor Newsom called for criminals to be held accountable “with the full and appropriate force of the law.”
At the time of the announcement, Price appeared to welcome Newsom’s offer, saying he had “appointed Alameda County career Assistant Prosecutor Michael Nieto to represent my office in this collaborative effort.”
According to a recent letter obtained by the DCNF, Newsom’s office will continue to assist the Oakland community by providing additional law enforcement resources, but he has rescinded his offer to send additional attorneys.
Newsom’s Cabinet secretary, Ann Patterson, argued Price failed to include an attorney.
“However, after months of correspondence, including responding to resumes and requests for interviews, you have not taken the first step of signing a memorandum of understanding or deploying a California Guard attorney to your office,” Patterson wrote. “Accordingly, we have decided to transition these resources.”
December Crimes report The report found that crime in Oakland is on the rise, with car thefts up 44%, robberies up 38%, theft up 23%, violent crime up 21% and overall crime up 17%.
Oakland residents are fighting progressive policies that have contributed to a crime and homelessness crisis. “The combination of a fiscal crisis, hundreds of millions of dollars, and a public safety crisis has people afraid to travel around town, businesses leaving the city, [a] “This is the exact opposite of what Oakland needs right now as we rebuild as a city after the pandemic,” Taylor said.
