Andrew Yang, a tech entrepreneur who ran for president in 2020, believes President Biden is headed for a “historic defeat” in the election and has urged him to resign.
Yang Participated Speaking on NewsNation’s “Dan Abrams Live” on Friday, he said he thinks Biden needs to withdraw from the race before the Democratic National Convention begins Aug. 19 in Chicago.
“I think he’s headed for a historic defeat and will cede not only the White House but the Senate and the House to Donald Trump,” Yang told host Dan Abrams.
A handful of candidates challenging Biden for the 2020 presidential election called on him to step down, shortly after Biden’s poor debate performance raised concerns among Democrats about whether he could beat Trump in November or serve another four years if re-elected. Yang, who campaigned for Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) for the 2024 presidential election before suspending his campaign in March, said Biden, as a sitting president, must withdraw from the race “for the good of the country.”
Yang’s remarks came after Biden held his first solo press conference this year at the conclusion of the NATO summit in Washington, D.C. At the press conference, Biden said his appointed delegates were “free to do whatever they wanted” at the convention, including nominating new candidates, but maintained that he would continue his campaign.
Yang said this was an “interesting” development for Biden, as he has insisted he will not withdraw despite growing calls for him to do so.
“There’s been a lot of reporting that a lot of delegates, along with the general public and the electorate, don’t believe Joe Biden can win,” he said.
