Republicans rushed to voice their support for Trump after what appeared to be gunshots were heard during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and Trump was escorted off the stage by Secret Service officers with blood running down his face.
“Kelly and I are praying for President Trump and all who attended today’s rally in Pennsylvania and we also want to thank the law enforcement officers who responded to the scene,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, said in an X post following the incident.
“We have received reports from law enforcement and continue to monitor developments,” Johnson said.
“This horrific act of political violence at a peaceful election rally has no place in the country and should be strongly and unanimously condemned,” he continued.

“All Americans are grateful tonight that President Trump appears to be safe after this despicable attack on a peaceful assembly,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said on the X. “Violence has no place in our politics, and we thank the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies for their swift response.”

Senate Republican Whip John Thune, R-S.C., responded to X, writing, “Kimberly and I wish President Trump and everyone who attended the rally in Pennsylvania safety and are closely monitoring the situation.”
Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso also said he was praying for Trump and “everyone who was here today at the rally in Pennsylvania.”
“God protect President Trump,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) wrote on X, along with a photo of Trump with his fist raised as Secret Service agents began escorting him off the stage. Trump’s face had a red substance that appeared to be blood on it.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana, who was shot and wounded during practice for a congressional baseball game in 2017, posted on X, “Praying for President Donald Trump. Political violence will never be tolerated.”

“Jackie and I are praying for President Trump and all of you at today’s rally. President Trump is a proven warrior who has overcome adversity time and time again. He will come out of this terrible situation stronger than ever,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) posted in response to the news.
