RNC on next week’s convention: The show will go on

Below is an ongoing story.

The Republican National Convention will go on as scheduled. “It will go on as scheduled,” a senior Republican official told The Blaze News.

“President Trump looks forward to joining you in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him as the 47th president of the United States,” campaign senior advisers Suzie Wiles and Chris LaCivita said in a statement. “As our party’s nominee, President Trump will continue to share our vision for ‘Making America Great Again.'”

Former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and has reportedly just been released from the hospital. The Blaze News has heard reports that Trump is heading to Milwaukee, but has also heard reports that he is instead heading to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, which is currently “locked down like Fort Knox.” The party convention to formally nominate Trump is scheduled to begin on Monday.

The convention, which will take place in essentially a fortified town within the host city and will be heavily guarded by the Secret Service and federal and local police ahead of the event, is expected to draw tens of thousands of delegates, politicians, media and spectators and will culminate with the formal nomination on Thursday night.

Trump suffered an injury to his ear, either from a gunshot or, as some reports say, from glass from a teleprompter that was struck by a bullet, according to a photo reportedly taken by former White House press photographer Doug Mills. Appearance Depict a bullet whizzing past the candidate’s head.

“I want to thank the US Secret Service and all law enforcement for their swift response to the shooting that occurred in Butterstown, PA,” Trump wrote on Truth Social after the incident. “First of all, I want to express my condolences to the family of the person who died at the rally and the family of the other person who was seriously injured. I can’t believe something like this could happen in our country. We don’t know anything about the gunman at this time. He has since died. I was shot above my right ear. I knew immediately something was wrong as I heard a whoosh, a gunshot and felt the bullet break through my skin. I knew what was going on as I was bleeding profusely. God Bless America!”

Trump has yet to announce his running mate, and that announcement is rumored to be coming on Monday, but everything is still up in the air.
