Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) said his nephew was among those shot and killed by a suspected assassin at a rally for former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Jackson, who served as Trump’s personal physician and chief White House medical adviser during the Trump administration, said he had been gathered with his family at the Butler Farm Show to listen to the former president speak before shots rang out.
“They heard gunshots and they all fell to the ground,” he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity later that night.
“A bullet had gone across his neck, cut him in the neck, and he was bleeding,” Jackson added, noting that the enclosure of friends and family where they had been gathered “was in the line of fire.”
The 45th president himself nearly died after being shot, and after visiting a Pittsburgh-area hospital, he revealed in a TruthSocial post that he “felt the bullets going through my body.” [his] “It penetrated the skin” and “the top of my right ear.”
The US Secret Service later confirmed that one attendee was killed and two were seriously injured in the shooting.
Jackson’s nephew was also treated in a triage tent after the incident.

“Thankfully his injuries were not serious and he is in good spirits. My family was seated near the front row as the President spoke,” the congressman later added in a statement.
“I would like to thank everyone who has contacted me to check on him,” he said. “Please join me and my family in praying for those who were injured and those who lost their lives.”
“The president and the survivors are lucky to be alive,” Jackson concluded.
A Secret Service sniper shot and killed the gunman, identified by Washington Post sources as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, from the roof of a manufacturing plant more than 130 yards from the stage.
