‘International Left … Resort to Terrorism’ to Stop Trump

Argentine President Javier Milley, a liberal and staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, issued a statement in support of the 2024 presidential frontrunner after the assassination attempt on Trump on Saturday night, blaming the violence on the “international left.”

“I express my full support and solidarity with President and Candidate Donald Trump, who was the victim of a despicable assassination attempt that put his life and the lives of hundreds of others at risk,” Milley wrote in a lengthy message on Twitter.

While Trump was speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday evening, a gunman opened fire on the podium. The bullet appeared to strike Trump in the ear, and police later announced that at least one rally attendee had been killed and one or two others were seriously injured as of this writing. Security personnel also removed the gunman, whose identity remains unknown as of this writing.

“I can’t believe this kind of act could happen in my country,” Trump said in a statement after the incident. “I was shot above my right ear. I heard the whoosh and the gunshot, felt the bullet cut through my skin and immediately knew something was wrong.”

Reacting to the incident, Milley blamed the “international left” for the assassination attempt, suggesting that left-wing violence was a much bigger international problem than threats to Trump’s life.

“Today, seeing their evil ideology fading away, it is not surprising that the international left is desperate to destabilize democracies and foment violence to consolidate their power,” Milley writes. “Panicked after losing an election, they are turning to terrorism to impose their regressive, authoritarian agenda.”

“We wish President Trump a speedy recovery and that the US elections will be conducted in a fair, peaceful and democratic manner,” he concluded.

Milley later posted another message responding to a video of former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) likening Trump to Adolf Hitler in a television appearance before the assassination attempt.

“Politically correct leftist pockets are much the same all over the world,” he writes. “Whenever an aberrant epithet appears in society, they will label their opponents with it…There are a number of such evil actors in this country who can count on the accomplices of journalists.”

“It’s simple, just find the politicians who do this and the journalists who play their game. There you have the real enemies of freedom. The cultural battle never ends,” he concluded, adding his own catchphrase and campaign slogan, “Damn it, long live freedom!”

Millay remained active on Twitter throughout the night, reposting messages of support for former President Trump, including one from Argentina’s Justice Minister Mariano Cuneo Rivarona.

“In 2020 they tried to impeach them. They tried to jail him. Today, with no other options, they have made a direct attempt on his life. The left has no way to stop him and has resorted to violence,” Riverona wrote.

Another message, reposted by Millay, simply said: “The left are the sons of a thousand whores.”

Milley is currently in the United States, making his fifth visit to the country since taking office in December last year. He will attend a conference in Idaho and meet with several CEOs of major U.S. technology companies. Milley has yet to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden during his visit, but he did meet with President Trump in February.

Milley has long been a supporter of the former US president and has defended Trump against criticism from libertarians. In an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson in September, Milley warned that “we must not give the socialists a break” while Trump is campaigning to return to the White House, and praised him as “one of the few people who fully understands that the fight is against socialism and statists, and that wealth creation comes from the private sector.”
