Pray for Donald Trump, our leaders, and our republic

I was attending a family reunion at the ranch when I heard the news of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Thank God he wasn’t fatally wounded. It’s a miracle the bullet just grazed his face. If it had gone one inch in the wrong direction, he would have been dead.

After hearing the news, my family and I spent a few minutes catching up. There are about 30 of us here. We had talked about politics earlier in the day, and we don’t all agree on everything. The message I tried to get across is that politics is about principles. What principles are we fighting for? Given Saturday night’s news, this question takes on a whole new meaning.

Billions of dollars have been spent to tear us apart, but that’s a lie. All we need to do is get back to our principles, and one of our principles is not to shoot the president.

I immediately picked up the phone and contacted the President and his family to convey their sincere concern for him and for our Republic. I ask that you all continue to pray for the President and for our country, that this is our rock bottom, the worst that can happen before we stand up and say, “Enough of this madness.”

When you tell half the nation that they are horrible racist monsters, and you tell the other half that Trump is worse than Hitler, what do you think is going to happen? I’m not speaking to the American people, I’m speaking to the media. So I’ll ask you again: What do you think is going to happen?

I’ve said for years that we are repeating the past, and in particular 1968. The Democrats are holding their national convention in Chicago in a month or so. Will it be a repeat of the 1968 convention? I have no idea what they plan to do with Biden. Meanwhile, Trump is attending the Republican National Convention in a few days. The future of our republic seems very uncertain.

I pray for peace, I pray that Donald Trump will be a true example, like we saw with Pope John Paul II after the shooting, that he will not harbor any vengeance or malice or any kind of anger toward the shooter, but rather forgive, and that we will come together a little more through this.

Please, guard your heart, guard your feelings and emotions, and protect yourself from those who are trying to use this for manipulation and further conspiracy theories. I am counting the minutes until we start saying this was a right-wing shooter trying to make Donald Trump a favored candidate. I know some fools will say, “What a well-crafted shooting. It must have been planned!”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. should also have Secret Service protection. I don’t know why the Biden Administration won’t give it to him. The best speech I’ve ever heard was the speech by Robert F. Kennedy Sr. on the day Martin Luther King Jr. was killed. Robert F. Kennedy had to go to a big rally and his staff begged him to turn back, warning him that he would be attacked and killed by a mob. But he believed in the best of the people and delivered one of the most eloquent speeches I’ve ever heard. Listen to itHe preached peace and serenity and goodness and wanted the best for people and I do the same and I ask that you not harden your hearts, that you show compassion and love and that we not become like the left.

Yes, someone tried to kill our candidate and our president. If the same thing happened to Mr. Biden, I would be just as horrified as I am now. But if we believe in our republic, if we believe in these values, if we believe that we are a country founded on Christian principles, the strongest Christian principles are love and compassion, and now is the time to live by those principles.

Early Saturday morning, I was talking to another family member and he was talking about how awful Trump supporters are. I listened to him because I felt he had a point. Some people have become everything we don’t want to be, and he’s been through some of that.

I said, “I understand that, but have you ever asked yourself why that person is the way they are? Some people are mean, nasty and awful, but not everyone is like that. So why is that person the way they are? After 10 years of being called ‘deplorable’, ‘horrible’, ‘Bible-slammer’, ‘murderer’, ‘racist’ and ‘Nazi’, I think that pushes you to your breaking point and makes you want to ‘fight back’.”

Today, I ask you to be the best person you can be, and I ask you to use this opportunity, with love, to show those who may be saying nasty things to you what it means to stand for your principles and not succumb to their standards.

We gathered as a family and prayed for President Trump and his family, President Biden, Kennedy Jr., and all our leaders. Let us pray for peace. Let us pray for the Democratic Party, who is in danger of repeating 1968 in Chicago. If we are united, we will not lose our country. But billions of dollars have been spent to divide us, and that is a lie. All we need to do is return to our principles. One of our principles is not to shoot the president. No matter who is shot, we feel uncomfortable about it. We will not do that because we are Americans.

I pray again for our Republic. Lord, hear our prayer. Heal our nation. See the millions of people turning to you for safety and forgiveness. Bless President Trump and his family. Heal our President. Heal our nation. Heal our hearts. Save our Republic. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
