Former President Donald Trump on Sunday delivered a message of faith and urged Americans to stay strong and determined after a near assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.
“Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, only God could have prevented the unthinkable,” he posted on Truth Social.
He added:
We will not fear, but will stand firm in our faith and in the face of evil. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those injured and hold in our hearts our citizens who were so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we come together, show our true character as Americans, and remain strong, resolute, and do not let evil win. I love our country with all my heart. I love you all. I look forward to speaking to our great people from Wisconsin this week.

The message reinforced a video message he sent to the world the previous day, in which he stood up after the assassination attempt, raised his fist and shouted “Fight!”
The iconic moment was widely shared on social media platforms as a symbol of strength and courage.
The gesture was made after a bullet pierced his ear and he touched his ear and dove for cover as Secret Service agents ran onto the stage and surrounded him.
The horrifying moment left many wondering how suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was able to get so close to and injure a former president and presumptive Republican presidential candidate.
While Republican lawmakers and critics have criticized the Secret Service, President Trump, in a statement just two hours after the shooting, thanked them and police for their swift response.
He wrote:
I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service and all of the law enforcement agencies for their swift response to the shooting that occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most of all, I want to express my condolences to the family of the person who died at the rally and the family of the other person who was seriously injured. It is hard to believe that something like this could happen in our country. At this time, we know nothing about the person who shot him. He is deceased. I was shot above my right ear. I knew right away that something was wrong because I heard a whoosh and a gunshot and felt the bullet break through my skin. I was bleeding profusely and realized what was going on. God bless America.
Republicans now plan to question Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
