Melania Trump calls for country to ‘reunite’ following near-assassination

Former first lady Melania Trump issued a statement following the attempted assassination of her husband, former President Donald Trump, at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, denounced the shooter as a “monster” and called for the country to be “reunited.”

First Lady Melania She called the shooter “a monster who perceived my husband as an inhuman political machine” and “tried to snuff out Donald’s passions – his laughter, his ingenuity, his love of music and his inspiration.”

“When I watched those vicious bullets strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life – and Barron’s – was on the brink of devastating change,” Trump wrote.

She paid tribute to the Secret Service and law enforcement officers who “risked their lives” to protect her husband and mourned the victims, including one who was fatally wounded.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the innocent victims who have suffered as a result of this heinous act. It saddens me that you have to muster up your inner strength for such a horrific reason.”

“I am thinking of you right now, my fellow Americans,” Melania wrote. “We have always been a unique union. The fabric of America, our gentle nation, is in tatters, but our courage and common sense must rise to pull us together again.”
