Biden finally grants RFK Jr. Secret Service protection — after denying him five times

Two days after a lone gunman nearly assassinated Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that Kennedy would receive Secret Service protection.

“I’m grateful to President Biden for giving me Secret Service protection.”

“In light of the events of this weekend, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection for Robert Kennedy Jr.,” Mayorkas said at the White House.

Mayorkas claimed that President Joe Biden had directed that protection be given to RFK Jr. “both before and after the events of last weekend.”

Campaign security is of paramount importance and is personal to RFK Jr.: His father, Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated on the campaign trail in June 1968, and his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in November 1963.

Despite that tragic history, the Biden administration has denied at least giving RFK Jr. Secret Service protection.

The Secret Service is legally required to provide protection for “the major candidates for president and vice president and their spouses” within 120 days of a presidential election, the agency said.

RFK Jr., meanwhile, said he appreciated Biden’s decision.

Gavin de Becker recently said that RFK Jr.’s campaign’s private security spending was close to $6 million. Said Politico.
