The 2024 MLB Home Run Derby kicked off with a national anthem that’s stood the test of time for all the wrong reasons. When singer Ingrid Andres sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, it drew bemused looks from baseball stars on the field and hilarious comments on social media.
Andress’ rendition of the anthem was completely off-key, as singers usually do. Her odd delivery during the song’s most iconic part nearly made several players laugh. It was reminiscent of Fergie’s iconic rendition of the national anthem at the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, both in the odd sound and the players’ reactions. Remember Whitney Houston’s hymn The 1991 Super Bowl? Yep… this is the complete opposite of that.
Andres grew up surrounded by baseball, with his father, Brad Andres, working as a coach for the baseball team. Colorado Rockies“Andres has won several country music awards and has had a great career. According to social media, people did not like the performance of the national anthem.”
That was the worst singing of the national anthem ever, oh my god

With all due respect and sincerity, this is the worst national anthem I have ever heard. Fergie would have made it better.

Was that the national anthem?

Maybe it’s not the anthem we needed, but it’s the anthem we deserve to hear.

A memorable anthem is usually not a good thing unless you’re Whitney Houston, and while Ingrid Andress is certainly a talented lyricist and singer in her own genre, it’s fair to say she’s no Whitney Houston.
