The hosts and production team of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” were reportedly stunned that the show was not aired on Monday in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, while other shows on the liberal network continued to air as scheduled.
Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, as well as staff, were told all shows would air on a single NBC News feed and likely across all NBC platforms through the channel’s primetime lineup on Monday.
However, MSNBC’s program began airing hours earlier. According to Fox News.
The “Today” show also aired a new episode on Monday.
“They were in shock,” an MSNBC source said of the show’s production team, according to Fox News. “It was supposed to be one feed, like it was this weekend. It was supposed to be one feed across all NBC News platforms.”
“And now, those who run [the] There’s been some pretty heated discussions internally about when the show went from one feed to two feeds.”
The source reportedly added that “a lot of people are upset” and that if they had known there would not be a single feed across platforms, Scarborough and Brzezinski would have demanded that the show stay on air.
The Post has reached out to MSNBC for comment.
When “Morning Joe” began at 6 a.m., viewers instead tuned in to NBC News’ special coverage, followed by a simulcast from the company’s streaming service, NBC News Now.
According to Fox News, when Jose Diaz-Balart begins hosting MSNBC at 9 a.m., the show’s “NBC News Special Report” subtitle will be replaced with “MSNBC Report,” and Andrea Mitchell and Chris Jansing will take over the afternoon show.
MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace hosted live coverage of the Republican National Convention from 4 p.m.
The left-leaning network insisted on airing a breaking news show instead of “Morning Joe” because it feared the show’s staunch anti-Trump supporters would say things that would reflect badly on the show and the network, a source familiar with the matter said. CNN reported early Monday morning.
An NBCUniversal spokesperson denied the report.
“Given the severity and complexity of this incident, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC are continuing to broadcast breaking news coverage from Saturday night,” a spokesperson told The Post on Monday.
Network sources who spoke to Fox News also said CNN’s report was untrue.
“Morning Joe” is scheduled to return to the air on Tuesday.
