Biden books BET interview in Nevada to reverse slipping black, Latino support

President Biden is touring the battleground state of Nevada in an effort to make up for his declining support among black and Latino voters and is scheduled to give an interview to BET in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Biden, 81, is also scheduled to speak at the NAACP national convention in Las Vegas on Tuesday, then at a conference of the UnidosUS Latino advocacy group, also in Las Vegas, on Wednesday.

It’s unclear when the interview with BET’s Ed Gordon will air.

Biden is trailing former President Donald Trump, 78, in most national and battleground state polls, including Nevada, where Biden defeated Trump in 2020.

Voters rank record illegal immigration and economic issues, including rising inflation and interest rates that are putting a strain on the incumbent president, at the top of their agenda.

Some polls suggest Trump is closing in on Biden among Hispanic voters and could also see a surge in support among black voters, which could decide the outcome in key states.

A Pew Research Center poll released in April found that 44% of Latinos would vote for Trump and 52% would vote for Biden.

According to exit polls, Trump received support from just 26% of Latinos in 2016, but in 2020 his approval rating rose to 38%.

A New York Times/Siena College poll released last month found that Trump, who held a large rally in the South Bronx in May, has the support of 29% of New York’s black residents and 26% of its Latino residents.

This would be a big change from 2020, when Trump received the support of just 6% of black New Yorkers and 22% of Hispanics. According to the exit polls.

Polls vary, with some showing Trump’s weaker support among minority groups.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Black Democrat, clashed with Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez last year over Biden’s response to record-breaking illegal immigration after Adams tried to warn the White House about growing anger among minority communities over the influx.

“The mayor said, ‘Let’s have a family discussion. We are drowning. [and] “‘I need help,'” a source told The Post about a dramatic January 2023 conversation between Adams and Chavez Rodriguez, when Adams was a senior White House adviser.

“It was clear she was not happy at all and she got back at him in a really harsh way.”

“Political debate [from Adams] “The basic argument was that black and Latino Democrats (who, by the way, the Democrats are losing) are more likely to oppose unlimited immigration than white Democrats,” another Democratic official told The Post.

“They’re much more likely to have lost jobs to people coming to the U.S., and they’re more likely to be first- or second-generation Americans who had to go through tough policies to get to the U.S. And social services are also coming out of the same pie. Eric Adams made this argument as someone who grew up in these communities.”

A surprising national poll conducted last month found that a majority of Hispanics support President Trump’s pledge to deport large numbers of illegal immigrants.

of CBS News/YouGov Poll It found that 53% of Latino voters and 47% of black voters want all illegal immigrants deported.
