The first day of the 2024 Republican National Convention has officially concluded.
Just two days after Donald Trump survived a brazen assassination attempt, more than 2,400 Republican delegates gathered at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee to formally nominate Trump as their 2024 presidential candidate.
“Every American deserves a chance to achieve the American Dream, but under Joe Biden’s debilitating economic policies, that dream has evaporated.”
The big news of the day was President Trump’s announcement that he had nominated Senator J.D. Vance, an Ohio Republican, former Marine, Yale Law School graduate, and author of the best-selling book “Hillbilly Elegy,” as his 2024 presidential candidate.
The tone of the convention was set immediately after the opening ceremony, which included a prayer and a pledge.
“Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!” Representatives SungWhile pumping his fist in the air.
The moment was reminiscent of how Trump responded when he was on the brink of death: After Secret Service agents tackled him onstage at a campaign rally in rural Pennsylvania on Saturday, the former president stood there with his face covered in blood, remaining composed as he turned to his supporters, pumped his fist in the air and repeated the phrase, “Fight!” before being rushed off the stage and taken to a local hospital.
But it also signals Republicans’ unified will to push back against President Joe Biden’s policies and liberal policies.
“Today’s Democratic agenda poses a clear and present danger to the American people, our institutions, our values and our people,” said Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.).
Indeed, the prime-time speakers, which included Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, South Carolina Governor Kristi Noem, Rep. Byron Donald (R-FL) and venture capitalist David Sachs, gave brief speeches comparing American life under Biden to what they believe is a revival of the American Dream under Trump.
With the economy and immigration being central issues in the election, this message is sure to resonate with a majority of Americans.
“Every American deserves a chance to achieve the American Dream, but under Joe Biden’s policies that undermine our economy, that dream has disappeared,” Donald said.
“American families were better off when Donald Trump was president” Said “We are safer, we are wealthier, we are stronger. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote to put money in our pockets and good food on our kids’ tables,” influencer Amber Rose said.
The raucous crowd erupted in applause when Trump himself appeared at 10 pm ET, wearing a white bandage over his right ear as a testament to his close encounter with death, before taking a VIP seat next to his family and political allies, including Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Donald and Tucker Carlson.
Neither Trump nor Vance spoke on Monday.
Vance is due to accept the vice presidential nomination and address the convention on Wednesday, while Trump is due to speak on the final day of the convention on Thursday.
