MSNBC host Joe Scarborough lashed out at NBC News’ Lester Holt on Tuesday after he asked about President Joe Biden’s “bullseye” comment.
Biden called on former President Donald Trump to be a “target” during a call a week before the assassination attempt on the former president at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The president told Holt that it was a “mistake” to use the word “target,” but that it meant he was focusing on him.
Scarborough criticized Holt for asking questions “out of context” during a private interview with the president.
“But you can’t ask that question without context about the politically violent rhetoric that the Republican Party has engaged in for the better part of a decade,” Scarborough said. “You can talk all you want about Nancy Pelosi, about assassinating the speaker and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, about hanging Mike Pence, and we can talk about that on both sides. Again, it’s a good question to ask about something he said at a private fundraiser. It’s a good question. I would have asked that question. But to ask that question without context seems to me like it speaks to a false … moral relativism. That’s what was screamed throughout that portion of the interview. I have to say I was shocked.”

The Rev. Al Sharpton denied that Biden had made statements that would lead to violence and said both sides must oppose all political violence. (Related: Scarborough is noticeably absent while his wife drools over another Joe for the full 15 minutes.)
“Well, you’re against politically violent rhetoric on either side. You’re obviously against violence on all sides. And that’s why I say, even if he said it at a private fundraiser, it’s an important question, rather than standing in front of Republicans and mocking Nancy Pelosi’s husband, who was assaulted and nearly killed,” Scarborough continued.
An assailant named David DePape broke into the home of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and beat her husband, Paul, with a hammer in October 2022. DePape told authorities he broke into the home in an attempt to kidnap Nancy and force her to expose what he believed was a vast network of government conspiracies.
A gunman identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump’s rally from the roof of a nearby building on Saturday, wounding Trump in the ear and killing the father of two, before a Secret Service sniper shot and killed the gunman.
