Widow of man killed at rally says she has spoken to Trump

The widow of a man killed at former President Trump’s rally on Saturday said she had spoken with the former president.

Helen Comperatore, whose husband Corey Comperatore died, posted on social media that she had spoken with President Trump after the assassination attempt.

“He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the coming days and weeks,” she wrote. The New York Times reported.

Comperatore quoted the former president as saying her husband, 50, “left this world a hero and that God had welcomed him.”

Comperatore’s sister, Kelly Comperatore Meader, said the family spoke with other Trump campaign officials on Monday night and had been asked to speak with President Biden but declined.

Comperatore said: New York Post She said she did not want to speak to Biden because her husband is a staunch Republican and would not have wanted that to happen.

Corey Comperatore is a volunteer firefighter and father of two who, when gunfire rang out at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, yelled “get down” and put his own body on the line to shield his family from the bullets, according to his wife.

“I have no ill will towards Joe Biden,” Comperatore said. “He has done nothing wrong to my husband. This is what a sneaky 20-year-old kid did.”

The suspect in the shooting was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He allegedly climbed a building adjacent to where President Trump was speaking and fired shots. He was shot and killed by Secret Service agents.

The bullet grazed the former president’s ear, and two other attendees were seriously injured, the Secret Service said.

Biden and lawmakers are calling for an investigation into Secret Service security protocols and apparent lapses there, as well as why the man was able to get onto the roof and start shooting.

More than $5 million had been raised for the shooting victims by Tuesday night, according to GoFundMe. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), one of the wealthiest members of the Senate, has donated to the fund along with other lawmakers.
