Adam Schiff said Joe Biden should not seek reelection because he has “serious concerns about whether he can defeat President Donald Trump in November.”
Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff on Wednesday called on President Joe Biden to not seek reelection in a statement to the Los Angeles Times, becoming the 20th Democrat in Congress to do so.
“President Trump’s reelection would undermine the foundations of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether he can defeat Donald Trump in November,” Schiff, a California Democrat running for Senate, was quoted as saying by the paper.
Schiff is the first Democrat to call on Biden to not seek reelection since the assassination attempt on Trump.
The California Democrat, who is running for U.S. Senate and served as an impeachment manager during Trump’s impeachment trial, has been one of the former president’s most scathing critics.
Schiff is the first Democrat to publicly call on Biden to drop out of the race since the weekend assassination attempt on Trump.
