Adam Schiff calls for Joe Biden to step down from campaign

On Wednesday, Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California for the first time called on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential campaign.

Schiff is comment He said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

“Joe Biden is one of the most significant presidents in our nation’s history, and his lifetime of service as a senator, vice president and now president has made our country better,” Schiff said in a statement.

“But our country is at a crossroads,” he continued. “President Trump’s reelection would undermine the very foundations of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump in November.”

He added that while Biden’s decision should be his own, the president should “pass the baton” to another Democrat who can beat former President Donald Trump in the election.

He also said he would support Biden’s campaign regardless if he decided to stick to his course.

“I will do everything in my power to help them succeed,” Schiff said. “There is only one goal: to defeat Donald Trump. The stakes are just too high.”

Schiff is running for California’s U.S. Senate seat after Sen. Dianne Feinstein died in September.
