The parents of suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks contacted police on Saturday, hours before he opened fire on former President Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, sources told Fox News.
Sources said the would-be assassin’s parents had told local police he was missing and they were worried about his safety.
It remains unclear whether they knew he was in possession of an AR-15 rifle that belonged to his father.
Police have not disclosed what action they took after being contacted.

Crooks’ parents are cooperating with FBI agents who are trying to determine a motive for the shooting that wounded President Trump and killed rally-goer Corey Comperatore.
Authorities have completed an investigation of Crooks’ phone and social media accounts but have not yet made the results public.
The shooter’s parents, Matthew and Mary Crooks, were both licensed professional counselors in Pennsylvania, according to state records.
The two qualified as social workers in 2002 and only renewed their qualifications last year.

Crooks, a 2022 graduate of Bethel Park High School, was shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper after opening fire at a rally in Butler.
The high school loner was a registered Republican but donated to progressive campaigns in 2021.
Crooks was a member of the local gun club, along with his father, who was a registered Liberal Party member.
His mother was a registered Democrat.

The would-be assassin had earned an associate’s degree in engineering science from Allegheny County Community College just two months before the shooting.
ABC News reported. He was set to attend Robert Morris University in the fall and had also been accepted to the University of Pittsburgh, but chose not to enroll.

Crooks works as a nutritionist at a local nursing home and had asked for the Saturday off because she had “things to do.” According to CNN.
