In an interview with Breitbart News on Wednesday, Dave McCormick, a Republican candidate for the Pennsylvania Senate, detailed his first-hand witnessing of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump and spoke of Trump’s courage.
McCormick spoke with Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The conservative congressman from the Keystone State was sitting in the front row at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally and said he was scheduled to address the crowd just minutes before the shooting.
McCormick said Trump showed extraordinary courage during the shooting.
He explained: “I saw the president stand up, fist pumping, blood streaming from his face, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, how can you be so defiant, how can you be so reassuring, how can you have the guts to do something like that?’ I think if 100 people were in that situation, 98 of them would stay in the fetal position.”
Boyle said it was “divine intervention” that led Trump to survive the assassination attempt, and that the “hand of God” was on Trump’s shoulder.
After the incident, McCormick said the shooting provided an opportunity to reflect on “how close it was and how tragic it could have been.”
He spoke with his six daughters after the shooting, and they were “terrified. The idea that their safety might be at risk just because their father was running for office to serve their country never occurred to them.”
Turning his attention to the Pennsylvania Senate race, McCormick said Pennsylvanians are in “serious trouble” because of “crazy inflation,” with “60 percent of Pennsylvanians” living paycheck to paycheck, and that cities like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie are plagued by crime.
He noted that as Pennsylvania has become more conservative, his Democratic opponent, Sen. Bob Casey, has only become more left-leaning, and that he and President Joe Biden have “waged a war on fossil fuels.”
