MILWAUKEE — Several senators confronted Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night.
“This is an assassination attempt. You owe the American people an explanation. You owe President Trump an explanation,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) denounced during the standoff.
She later posted a video of the encounter on X, saying “the American people have a right to answers from the Secret Service.”
Joining her was an energetic Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.).
“The director of the Secret Service’s refusal to answer our questions is egregious. This is one of the biggest security failures in the agency’s history. She can run, but she can’t hide. She is a failed leader and she needs to resign immediately,” Blackburn said in a statement to The Washington Post.
The Post has reached out to a Secret Service spokesman for comment.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.
