President Joe Biden appeared to forget Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s name during an interview with Black Entertainment Television (BET) on Tuesday, calling Austin a “black guy.”

“So it’s all about treating people with dignity. And it’s about, e.g. [the heat I’m getting] “It’s because I named a black man for secretary of defense,” Biden said, though parts of his remarks were unclear.
“The reason I named Ketanji Brown is because of the people I named,” Biden continued. It’s unclear who he was referring to when he made the accusation.

This latest glaring error comes as mainstream media is finally beginning to acknowledge Biden’s obvious cognitive decline. (Related: President Trump nominates J.D. Vance as his 2024 running mate)
After Biden’s debate with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine professor Marty McCully said he appeared to be showing signs of cognitive decline and dementia. A former reporter who covered Biden from the beginning of his career wrote on Wednesday that the president “should not have run for reelection” because of his mental decline.
On Wednesday, the president was diagnosed with COVID-19, despite having received “vaccination and booster doses.”
