White House Had ‘Very Little’ Involvement with Border

On Fox News Channel’s “Your World” broadcast Wednesday, former Border Patrol chief Raul Ortiz said there was “very little input from the White House” during his tenure, adding, “Until we actually have a government-wide commitment to address this issue, I think we’re going to continue to face some of the challenges that we’re facing today.”

“People say every town is a border town and that’s exactly what we’re facing right now, so unless we eliminate sanctuary cities and start making sure we support local law enforcement, these issues are going to continue to happen,” Ortiz said.

He added, “We certainly have had great support from the Secretary and the Commissioner of CBP. But once you get past those layers of leadership, we haven’t seen much input from the White House. And until we actually have a whole-of-government approach to this issue, I think we’re going to continue to face some of the challenges that we’re facing today. Deportations are necessary, there have to be consequences, and we have to be prepared to make those tough decisions. And if we don’t — if we’re not eligible for asylum benefits, then we have to send you back to your country.”

Ortiz also said the Border Patrol, ICE and DHS need more resources to solve the problem.
