Former Republican National Chairman Michael Steele said Thursday that “Democrats need to give President Biden some final rites” as the debate continues over whether Biden is fit to defeat former President Trump in November and remain in office.
“At this point, Democrats need to give President Biden his final rites and get the hell out,” said Steele, who is also an MSNBC host. stated in the post On social platform X.
“I have never seen a bunch of political incompetents attack their candidate and themselves so vigorously, and think they are competitive without offering even the slightest bit of a strategy for how they will move forward once the coup is over,” Steele continued in the post.
Steele’s post was a response to a story in The Hill, in which fellow MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said on his show Thursday that Democrats are frustrated with those surrounding President Biden “who are isolating him” amid growing calls for him to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
“The people around Joe Biden have an obligation at this point to step up and help the president. Help his loved ones. Do the right thing. It’s not going to end well if this drags on. Look at what happened yesterday,” Scarborough said on “Morning Joe,” the day after the president tested positive for COVID-19.
Biden has faced political headwinds after a poor performance in last month’s presidential debate, which raised concerns about his age, mental health and whether he can retake the White House in the fall. His shaky performance in the debate has led to growing calls among House and Senate Democrats for Biden to drop out of the race.
An Emerson College poll released Thursday found him trailing President Trump nationally and in seven battleground states.
Biden has insisted he will continue on the campaign trail, and in an interview on Wednesday suggested he would reconsider his decision to continue on the campaign only if his doctors told him there were any health issues.
