Former President Donald Trump has spoken out about the assassination attempt on him, saying the experience changed his attitude and “outlook on life.”

“That’s why I say close call!”
“This was our best campaign ever. And then I got shot!” Trump said at the event.
“How can that happen?” he asked as the crowd chanted “Fight, fight, fight!”
“How can something like that happen? But I was lucky, God was with me,” he added.
“That’s why they say it was a close call! It was an amazing, terrifying, wonderful thing that happened. In so many ways it changes your attitude, your outlook on life. And honestly, I think I’m even more grateful to God because of what happened. I really do. And not because it’s fun,” Trump continued.
“It’s not completely off,” he added, “but it’s pretty awful that it would happen.”

Trump is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, later Thursday, and has said he has adapted his speech in light of the shooting.
