According to a Politico report, people close to former President Donald Trump said the assassination attempt had made him more humble, but some liberals were outraged by the comments.
Natalie Allison’s article cites multiple sources close to Trump who say the shooting has made him “calmer” and more “spiritual.”
“They obviously want that damn sociopath to win.”
Among them was Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s son.
“These are momentous events that change people forever,” he said. “My dad has always been a fighter and that will never change, but I think he will do his best to moderate where necessary.”
Others said he quickly remembered the man killed in the attack and frequently mentioned God and faith.
Allison also noted that Trump said he rewrote the entire speech to appeal to unite the country and make it less divided.
The reaction from many on “X,” the platform formerly known as Twitter, was intense and infuriating.
“It’s hard to put into words how embarrassing it is to see a national political reporter publishing such nonsensical, normalizing drivel in 2024.” Responded Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan.
“They are quietly plotting a fascist takeover of the federal government.” Reply Transgender activist Charlotte Clymer.
“How can anyone take Politico, Axios and The New Yorker seriously when they all obviously want that damn sociopath to win,” one user said. Asked Rhetorically.
“We must never forget that Trump’s political existence was possible only because of the media’s constant appetite for theatrical bullshit.” Said Another user.
“Yes, please.” Reply Activist Leah McElrath.
President Trump is scheduled to deliver his final speech at the party convention after receiving the presidential nomination.
