A casket bearing the body of a volunteer fire chief killed at President Donald Trump’s rally on Saturday was draped with the American flag and arrived at a Pennsylvania church on Friday morning ahead of his funeral.
Dozens of onlookers offered condolences as the casket of Corey Comperatore, 50, was carried into a church in Cabot, Pennsylvania, for the 11 a.m. funeral.
Comperatore was killed Saturday evening trying to protect his family when a gunman opened fire from the roof of the plant during a rally for Donald Trump at the Butler Farm Show.
The 78-year-old former president suffered bullet wounds in the assassination attempt, and two other people at the rally were seriously injured.
President Trump offered condolences to the slain husband and father during his speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night.
Comperatore was honored with a public procession in Freeport on Thursday.
The funeral will be held privately, followed by a procession of up to 500 fire trucks traveling from the church to the Buffalo Township Fire Department in Salvador, where Comperatore served for several years. The New York Times reported.
