Raskin, a Biden Ally, Compares the President to a ‘Tiring Baseball Pitcher’

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), known for his outrageous rhetoric against Republicans, sent a letter to President Joe Biden over the Fourth of July weekend in which he likened the president to a “tired baseball pitcher.”

This letter, The New York Times As reported on Thursday, it’s the first public rebuke from a former ally of Biden, who is refusing to withdraw from the presidential race. Most of the calls from Democratic lawmakers for Biden to step down have come from leaks to the media. In Raskin’s case, he acknowledged sending the letter.

“I wrote that letter to the president over the Fourth of July weekend,” Raskin said. Said of Times“, noting that Biden wants to discuss stepping down as the party’s presumptive nominee.

What I am saying is that we need a strategic internal discussion about how to move forward in order to decisively win an election of immense importance to the future of America. Raskin gave the example of Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez’s Game 7 win for the American League pennant in 2003. Martinez was left on the mound as an exhausted pitcher before losing to the New York Yankees.

“There is no shame in bowing to the well-deserved praise of an overflowing crowd when your arms are tired, and ignoring statistics is a real danger to your team,” Raskin wrote in the letter.

It’s a difficult situation because you’re a star pitcher and a manager. But in a democracy, as you’ve shown us more than any president before you, you’re not a manager acting alone. You’re a co-manager with our great team and great people. Work with your team, listen to them, and you’ll make the right decision.

According to multiple media reports, the letter comes as Democratic Party powerhouses Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) are moving to end Biden’s political career.
