Socialist Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York slammed Democrats for leaking anonymous comments to sabotage the Biden campaign while refusing to acknowledge their desire to also remove Vice President Kamala Harris.
Ocasio-Cortez made the comments in a video posted to her social media accounts on Thursday.
“I’m going to say something that a lot of people won’t say, just say it,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“If you think there’s a consensus among those who want Joe Biden out of office to support Kamala Harris as vice president, you’re wrong. I say that because if they come out in public and talk about every little thing behind closed doors, informal“But they’re not going to be completely honest, and I’m going to be honest for them,” she continued.
“I’m in these rooms, I’m watching what they’re saying in these conversations,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “Many of them aren’t just interested in getting rid of the president. They’re interested in getting rid of all the candidates.”
She floated a conspiracy theory that Republicans were plotting to steal the election through the Supreme Court.
She criticized Democrats for not publicly acknowledging that they wanted to remove Harris.
“That’s ridiculous! If you have an opinion you should speak up and say it publicly!” she added.
In an hour-long video posted to Instagram, she acknowledged that Biden’s performance in the debate with Trump was terrible, but promoted conspiracy theories that Republicans were plotting to steal the election through the Supreme Court.
“I want to put all my cards on the table because I don’t know what’s going to happen,” she adds at the beginning of the video.
Ocasio-Cortez has previously defended Biden, saying the issue of his candidacy was resolved because he decided to announce his candidacy and continue the campaign.
“I have spoken with him many times and he has been very clear then and since about his intentions to run in this election. This matter has been resolved,” she said at the time.
“Joe Biden is our candidate. He’s not going to withdraw from this race. He’s in this race and I support him,” she added.
Despite her defense, pressure on Biden has only grown after former President Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally.
