It’s been 10 years since Rory McIlroy last won a major title, and his failure to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 last month drew harsh criticism from the golf community.
Needless to say, McIlroy’s personal life has also come under scrutiny this year. He and wife Erica Stoll were planning to divorce but called it off after just a few weeks.

McIlroy’s former agent, Andrew Chandler, said: Sports Talk His personal life is getting in the way of his success on the course.
“The best players obviously play well more often. And the really best players take their chances. That’s what happened with Rory. Rory played great for 10 years and he just never took any chances.”

“From the outside looking in, I haven’t seen Rory for a few years, but to me it looks like his life is a mess,” Chandler said. “You know as a sportsman you have to be totally focused and keep your mind on what you’re doing.”
Chandler also suggested McIlroy’s decision to take a more leadership role in the PGA Tour and LIV Golf battles may have contributed to his struggles.
“So he can’t get away from it. I think his life is really messed up,” he added.
McIlroy struggled late in the U.S. Open, losing the lead to eventual tournament winner Bryson DeChambeau.

McIlroy missed the cut at the British Open for the first time since 2019.
