Rep. Jackson, former White House physician, shares Trump gunshot wound update

Rep. Ronny Jackson (D-Texas), a former White House physician, shared an update on former President Trump’s gunshot wound in a memo on Saturday.

“As former presidential physician to President Donald J. Trump, I was understandably extremely concerned about his health following the assassination attempt, as was the entire world,” Jackson said. It was stated in the memo“So I met with him later that night in Bedminster, New Jersey, to personally check on him and offer any assistance I could.”

Trump was shot in one ear during an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last weekend, and the former president was recently seen with a bandage over the injured ear.

“I have been with President Trump since that time and have examined and treated his wounds daily,” Jackson said in the memo. “He is in good health. As reported and witnessed by the entire world, he was shot in the right ear with a high-powered rifle used by the assassin.”

“The bullet missed entering the skull by less than a quarter inch, striking the top of the right ear,” Jackson continued. “The bullet inflicted a wound a quarter inch wide and reached down to the cartilage surface of the ear. There was significant bleeding initially, followed by significant swelling over the entire top of the ear. The swelling has since subsided and the wound has begun to granulate and is healing properly. As the ear is highly vascularized, there will be intermittent bleeding and will require bandaging. Due to the wide and blunt wound itself, no sutures were required.”

According to an interview published in The New York Times earlier this week, Jackson was on board Trump’s plane the day after the rally, treating Trump’s ear on the flight to Wisconsin for the Republican National Convention.

“The bullet scraped off a little bit of the top of the ear, which is an area that naturally bleeds a lot,” Jackson told The Times. “The bandage is a little thicker because it needs to be absorbent. You don’t want to walk around with bloody gauze on your ear.”
