House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Democrats are conducting a “massive cover-up” about President Joe Biden’s incompetence.
“In your personal interactions with the president, has he appeared to be cognitively impaired?” asked anchor Jake Tapper.
Johnson said, “Well, I didn’t want to come out and talk about my personal interactions with the president because I was concerned about what I said earlier about appearing vulnerable on the world stage at this very dangerous time, but now that the secret is out, we get to hear the Republican chairman confirm what everyone else knows and sees. Democrats have been engaged in a major cover-up here. They have been trying to prevent the public from realizing that we all see up close and personal that he is not the Joe Biden that he was four years ago when he ran for president. He can’t do that now. It’s not his fault. I mean, no one can stop the rate at which you age and your abilities decline, but it’s clearly happening here and it’s something that has to be addressed.”
“Calling it a cover-up is a pretty strong word. Are you saying that this needs to be seriously investigated by Congress or law enforcement?” Tapper said.
“That’s something we’ve talked about. I mean, you saw over the last few weeks, leading up to the debate three weeks ago, Democratic leaders in Congress and elsewhere went on television and said frequently that Joe Biden was so much better than us, that he could go to the Olympics,” Johnson said. “I mean, it was ludicrous. They all knew that wasn’t true. I mean, anyone who had any interaction with him over the last few years knew that wasn’t true.”
