RFK Jr. slams Trump, Biden at Freedom Fest
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. vows to return to transparent government and fight Washington bureaucracy, and speaks on immigration, civil rights and foreign policy.
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the race for the White House is a “race between two people” and that he is the only one who can beat President Donald Trump following Biden’s shock withdrawal from running for a second term.
Speaking at a hastily convened news conference on Sunday from his family’s historic home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, Kennedy praised Biden but also criticized Democratic leaders for “covering up” his own mental breakdown.
“First, I want to congratulate President Biden on his career in public service, for a very long career representing our country and serving our country, and for overcoming many of the hardships and challenges, personal challenges and tragedies that he’s experienced in his life, with very admirable behavior and the empathy that he’s gained from those experiences,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy, who left his family’s party after it blocked his efforts to challenge Biden in the primary, said the Democratic National Committee had created chaos by shielding Biden.

“The DNC’s response to this obvious situation was to hide it from the American people and use its power over the Democratic nominating process to ensure that no one could compete with President Biden in a way that would expose his shortcomings,” Kennedy argued.
Kennedy continued to campaign as an independent and, according to his campaign website, achieved double-digit support in some polls on platforms that denounced “corporate takeovers,” the “affordability crisis” and “forever wars.”

Kennedy also criticized Vice President Harris, who is expected to be the leading Democratic candidate, and former President Trump.
“President Trump has a connection with the American people, a populist connection,” Kennedy said, “but in many ways it’s the same corrupt connection we saw at the DNC over the past year, and it’s a cover for the fact that their goal was to install a president who represents the interests of corporations, not the interests of the American people.”
With Biden’s campaign halted, what’s next for Democrats?
“If Democrats do what I expect they will do, which is to appoint Kamala Harris, who is deeply unpopular within the party, as vice president, they will do it because it’s the easiest way to keep their money,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy said he would consider accepting the Democratic nomination if offered it.
“If the elders of the party came to me, I would certainly listen to them and I would certainly discuss things with them,” Kennedy said. “I’m the only candidate for president who can beat Donald Trump, so if I were in their shoes, I would, and I would certainly listen to their suggestions.”

“At the time I left the Democratic Party, it was clear to me that the rules were rigged so that I couldn’t win, and that’s the only reason I left the Democratic Party that day,” Kennedy said. “So I find myself in the same position today as Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson, you know, being pushed aside.”
Kennedy added, “I feel good about where I’m at in the campaign and I believe I can win this election. I believe at this point that this is a two-candidate race, or just a two-candidate race, let me say that. And, you know, I’m in the best position to win.”
