Delegate tracker: Harris gets quick start on road to 1,986

President Biden has endorsed VP Harris to succeed him as the Democratic presidential nominee, but she will need to secure a sufficient number of delegates to officially succeed him as VP.

Nearly 4,000 delegates will be gathered at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago from August 17. Biden has won more than 3,800 of them, and all delegates are free to decide who to vote for.

To win the nomination, a candidate needs to win 1,986 delegates. As of 10 p.m. Sunday, 531 delegates had already endorsed Harris.

Many top Democrats on Sunday followed Biden in endorsing Harris, with notable exceptions. It’s unclear whether Harris will face a serious challenge.

Either way, it will ultimately be up to the delegates at the Democratic National Convention to choose their nominee.

According to DNC rules, a candidate must receive pledges of support from 300 delegates to appear on the convention ballot.

Ms Harris has already begun lobbying and garnering support from delegates: Tennessee was the first state to pledge all of its delegates to her, with South Carolina, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Florida following suit on Sunday.

The delegations that supported Harris, in order of announcement, are:

Tennessee

The state’s Democratic delegates held a conference call on Sunday and later announced they would endorse Harris with all 77 of their delegates.

South Carolina

All 55 of the state’s nominating delegates endorsed Harris after meeting online. South Carolina was the first state to hold a Democratic primary and the first in the nation to move on from the Iowa caucuses in a historic shift.

North Carolina

North Carolina’s 168 delegates voted “unanimously” to support Harris, according to state party chairman Anderson Clayton. I have written X: “Proud of our party. LFG!”

New Hampshire

The state’s 25 delegates endorsed Harris after meeting on Sunday.

“We look forward to our convention in August and 107 days of campaigning for Vice President Harris and the Democratic nominee,” the delegation said. I have written In a statement.

Florida

NBC News first reported that Florida is the fifth state to back Harris, giving her 224 votes, making it her largest backing so far.

Louisiana

The state’s 48 delegates are united in supporting Vice President Kamala Harris after a conference call Sunday night.
