Harris breaks 24-hour fundraising record after Biden drops out

Vice President Harris raised $81 million in the first 24 hours after President Biden left office and endorsed her for the Democratic nomination, her campaign said, touting it as the most fundraising in 24 hours ever by a presidential candidate.

“The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris truly represents the grassroots energy and enthusiasm we need to win this election,” campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz said in a statement. “Already, a broad and diverse coalition has begun to rally together in support of our important work to speak to the voters who will decide whether or not this election will be won.”

The campaign said it has raised more than 888,000 contributions from grassroots individual donors, 60 percent of whom had never previously donated in the 2024 election cycle. About 43,000 donors are registered to give to the campaign every week.

And the campaign’s swift response saw its social media account renamed from “Biden HQ” to “Kamala HQ” and double its followers overnight.

Within 24 hours of Biden announcing he would not seek reelection, Harris quickly garnered support from key Democratic figures, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), top black congressional leaders and several governors who were considered potential front-runners.

Hundreds of delegates have also voiced their support for Harris ahead of next month’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
