Trump says he ‘would be willing to do more than one debate’ with Vice President Harris

Former President Trump said he is open to multiple debates with Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

“Of course I would. I would love to. I think that’s important,” Trump said on a conference call with reporters on Tuesday when asked by Fox News’ Bill Melinda Ginsburg if he would be willing to debate Harris at least once.

“In fact, I intend to have more than one debate,” Trump insisted.

Minutes later, Trump said, “I haven’t agreed to anything. I just agreed to debate Joe Biden.”

President Biden made a shocking announcement on Sunday, announcing he would end his 2024 reelection campaign against President Trump and endorse his vice president. Biden’s move sparked a surge of support from Democratic governors, senators, representatives and other party leaders who have endorsed Harris to succeed Biden as party leader in 2024.

Now that Harris has secured the Democratic nomination, what’s next for her?

Biden suspended his campaign amid growing pressure from within his Democratic Party to withdraw after his disastrous performance in the first presidential debate with Trump last month.

The 81-year-old president was unsteady and awkward in his answers for the first 20 minutes of the debate in front of a national audience, raising immediate questions about whether he was mentally and physically capable of serving another four years in the White House.

Harris announced on Monday night that she had secured the nomination, having received the support of a majority of the roughly 4,000 delegates at the Democratic National Convention, which begins in Chicago on August 19.

Trump told reporters that debating Ms Harris instead of Mr Biden “wouldn’t make any difference because the policies are the same.”

The former president, who skipped the Republican presidential primary debates, said, “I think debates are important in a presidential election. I really do.”

“I think it’s an obligation to debate whether you’re the Democratic nominee or the Republican nominee. I think it’s very important.”

In comments to reporters during a conference call in which he ramped up his criticism of Harris on the crucial issue of border security, Trump again attacked ABC News, which was scheduled to host the second debate between Biden and Trump in early September.

“I’m not excited about ABC because it’s really fake news,” Trump said.

Regarding the next presidential debate, he said, “I have at least an equal say, and I don’t like ABC’s idea.”
