New York Democrat says Biden ‘failed to act quickly enough’ to secure the border

Rep. Pat Ryan criticized President Biden for failing to secure border security early in his presidency and said Vice President Harris would need to focus on border security if she wins the election.

“The president had and still has responsibilities, including securing our borders, which is the fundamental responsibility of any nation, but he failed to act fast enough,” Ryan said.

The border issue remains a dividing point between Republicans and Democrats ahead of November, with former President Trump announcing he is likely to visit the southern border to draw a contrast with “radical” Vice President Kamala Harris.

“I don’t think this is a political issue,” Ryan said of criticism of the Biden administration’s border policies. “These are just facts on the ground, and I’m the type of person who, right or wrong, whoever is in charge, I’m going to call it out when I see it, and that’s what the American people really want right now.”

Ryan also said his constituents have expressed concerns about the border crisis and that he has been vocal about the issue in Congress “since day one.”

“I have aggressively criticized President Biden in a way that most of my Democratic colleagues have not,” the New York congressman said. “We have urged him to take action, and I hope the vice president will continue to push for that once he takes over in the near future.” [issue]”
