First appeared on FOX: Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas declined to answer a question this week about whether Vice President Kamala Harris had “done a good job” as “border chief” overseeing President Biden’s immigration policy.
“Do you think Kamala Harris has done a good job as border secretary?” Gonzales, who represents Texas’ 34th Congressional District, was asked in her congressional office on Tuesday.
“I don’t know if she was a border patrol officer, but was she a border patrol officer?” Gonzalez asked, echoing the media comments. Trying to walk back Now that Harris has been nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate, the description of the position remains the same.
“She was the head of the Border Patrol several years ago. Do you think she did a good job as head of the Border Patrol?” Gonzalez was asked again.

Gonzales is the second Democratic congressman to not directly answer a question about Harris’ record on immigration policy since she took office. Biden’s nominee in 2021 Republicans and the mainstream media were quick to dub her the “border czar,” but Democrats pushed back.
Democratic Rep. Emilia Sykes also declined to answer questions about Harris’ policies on illegal immigration when asked in her congressional office on Tuesday.

Now that Harris is the likely Democratic presidential nominee, her record on immigration is likely to be a key talking point as Republicans try to rally voters against her.
Republican Senate candidates in battleground states have already run ads slamming Harris on immigration and linking her record to lesser incumbents, including Ohio Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno’s in an ad announced Wednesday.
