The Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) has voted unanimously to support Vice President Harris’ presidential bid, becoming the latest labor union to endorse a potential Democratic presidential nominee.
A major construction workers union endorsed Harris along with more than a half-dozen national labor groups.
“Vice President Harris has been a key partner in leading the most union-friendly White House ever,” said LiUNA President Brent Booker. It said in a statement Thursday.
“She has played a key role in driving the largest investment in our nation’s infrastructure in modern times, and in doing so, helped create hundreds of thousands of good, union jobs.”
Booker pointed to Harris’ support for the Biden administration’s Inflation Beating Act, which helped turn renewable energy jobs into family-sustaining union jobs, and the American Rescue Plan, which helped secure pensions for union members and retirees.
“Kamala Harris is the strong, pioneering leader America needs. As a tough, experienced prosecutor, she has the intellect, skill and tenacity to prevail against a dangerous convicted criminal who is using lies and hatred to return to the White House. She will keep the torch of the Biden Presidency alive and shining brightly,” Booker wrote.
LiUNA has previously endorsed Biden, running a seven-figure ad earlier this year highlighting Biden and his infrastructure investments.
Booker said Harris’ endorsement was a unanimous vote of union members and he was confident she would continue to fight for union rights.
Several prominent labor unions with large presences in key battleground states, including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the United Auto Workers (UAW), have yet to endorse the vice president for president.
UAW President Sean Fain, who endorsed Biden’s candidacy in January, said the union was “in no rush” to endorse Harris.
Since launching her campaign shortly after Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris’ candidacy, Harris has rapidly garnered support from Democratic lawmakers and leaders across the country, as well as several major political fundraisers.
Harris also secured the Democratic presidential nomination with the support of more than 1,968 delegates, less than two days after Biden dropped out of the race.
