CNN’s Van Jones emotionally praises Biden as a ‘hero’ who ‘fell on his sword’ by exiting 2024 race

Van Jones, a CNN commentator and former adviser to President Barack Obama, on Wednesday offered glowing praise for President Biden, calling him a “hero” who has dedicated his political career to serving his country.

“Well done to the stammering boy,” Jones said, his voice breaking. “Well done. A good man. He threw himself on his sword. He threw himself on his sword. Most heroes fight to the end. He threw himself on his sword.”

Addressing the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday night, Biden did not directly address why he will not seek reelection but said now is the time for “new voices,” adding that he would serve out his first term.

“He asked, ‘Does character still matter?’ And it does tonight,” said Jones, visibly moved by Biden’s speech.

“He’s an older guy, but his heart’s still there,” Jones said of Biden. “The words aren’t as clear as they used to be, but the love is clear. The heart’s still there. I think people need to look at this, because the man who sat in that chair refused to give up power no matter what. He refused to give up power, he refused to get up from that chair even when there was an insurrection.”

“The people voted for him to step down from office, and he stayed,” he continued, referring to former President Trump. “The person sitting in that same chair shows that character matters, that you can have generosity, that you can put people first, and you can pass the baton and become a greater man because of it.”

“I love the guy,” he said.

Biden’s Oval Office speech came less than four weeks after his disastrous debate defeat against Trump. Democrats and the liberal media immediately began pushing to remove him from the nomination, but Biden stood firm until Sunday, repeatedly insisting he wasn’t going anywhere.

He has finally caved in, drawing praise from many who feared he would allow Trump to be re-elected.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
