Harris joins TikTok following candidacy announcement

Vice President Harris has recently been gaining attention on social media following her campaign announcement and now has her own account on the social media platform TikTok.

“I heard recently that I was on the ‘for you’ page so I thought I’d come on here too,” Harris said. He said in a post on Thursday. on TikTok, alluding to her recent popularity on the platform.

As a recent front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, Harris has increasingly become the focus of memes on the platform often associated with Gen Z.

Harris’ campaign has embraced memes, such as adopting branding from Charli XCX’s 2024 smash album “Brat” in the header of its official account on social platform “X.”

Some say Harris’ popularity across multiple social media platforms may be a sign of growing support among younger generations.

CNN commentator Van Jones said Monday that TikTok has helped transform the vice president “from a shy guy to a cool guy.”

“What’s going on on TikTok right now is insane, so there’s something going on that’s hard to quantify,” Jones told CNN. “I’m heartbroken by Kamala’s embarrassment, her laugh, the coconut tree comment, all the weird things she said.”

“She went from embarrassing to cool in 24 hours because an entire generation took all that content and remixed it into amazing TikTok videos,” he added.

Harris is likely to take on former President Trump as the party’s nominee after President Biden dropped out of the race last weekend. According to a national poll by The Hill/Decision Desk, Harris currently has an approval rating of 45.7%, 2.1 points lower than former President Trump’s 47.8%.
