US women’s soccer player takes issue with Christian content

Tierna Davidson, a player on the U.S. women’s soccer team, has argued that it will be harder for the team to represent gay people after a teammate shared a religious video on social media.

Davidson was referring to his teammate Corbin Albert, 20, who faced online backlash after sharing a video of a Christian service that showed a person with an intellectual disability giving a speech about anti-gender transition.

Albert also deleted a 2023 post in which family members took turns saying her pronoun was “USA,” which also drew criticism.

“I want to be able to really represent the queer community well on this team.”

Davidson told ESPN reporters. Sarah Spain This was before the US team played Zambia in the Olympics.

“It’s been tough,” she said of the controversy surrounding Albert. Fox NewsShe added that she doesn’t want anything to interfere with her ability to support gay people while playing football.

“It was hard for me when it first happened and it was hard to hear how the fans were taking it, because I want to represent the queer community really well on this team, so I want the fans to feel really welcome and to feel like they belong on this field with this team, so I never want to leave them feeling like they’re not welcome here.”

“I think with what she was talking about, it’s obviously a difficult situation that has affected me personally and it’s something that you have to learn as a young player, especially on the platform that you’re given,” she added.

Contrary to Davidson’s speculation, she is only 25, five years older than Albert, and she argued that Albert’s choice to share the video could “hurt other people.”

“Your beliefs, or how you express certain things, are very public and people see and hear it. Whether it’s something you were raised on or something that was instilled in you from an early age, it’s something that you may not be familiar with but that can be hurtful to other people.”

Albert faced backlash in late March 2024, including criticism from former soccer player and activist Megan Rapinoe.

Albert is Like the meme She posted on Instagram with the caption, “God worked a miracle and timed it so Megan Rapinoe didn’t sprain her ankle in the last game of her life.”

Rapinoe accused Albert of hiding behind religion and questioned whether she was making “any space safer, more inclusive” or “more whole.”

The young player later “sincerely apologised” for his actions, with Albert saying it was “immature and disrespectful to ‘like’ or share posts that are offensive, insensitive and hurtful.”
