According to a U.S. Border Patrol report, Border Patrol agents in the Swanton Sector on the U.S.-Canada border have apprehended more than 15,000 migrants so far this fiscal year, more than in the previous 13 years combined.
Swanton District Patrol Chief Robert Garcia reported this week that patrol agents have apprehended more than 15,000 migrants since Oct. 1, 2023. The staggering record number of migrant arrests this year reflects the vulnerability of the northern border with Canada.

Garcia said more immigrants have been arrested illegally entering eastern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire from Canada this year than in the previous 13 years combined.
Swanton area agents set a new immigration arrest record in June, arresting more than 3,300 immigrants who illegally crossed into the United States from Canada. The previous record was set just a month earlier, when Swanton area agents arrested just over 3,000 immigrants, according to a report by Breitbart Texas.
June was another record-breaking month for the Swanton Sector, with more than 3,300 arrests made across northeastern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

According to Garcia’s post above, July arrests are expected to exceed 3,000. If true, this would mean the department has arrested more than 9,000 migrants in the past three months alone.
Immigration arrests in Swanton have soared during the Biden-Harris administration, with Garcia reporting that arrests in April exceeded the full year totals for FY21 and FY22.
Since President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office in January 2021, agents in the Swanton area have arrested more than 23,000 migrants.
