French bishops issued a statement expressing astonishment at an anti-Christian parody of the Last Supper that took place during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Friday night.
The bishops expressed solidarity with “Christians on all continents who are hurt by the outrage and provocation” of this event. Said They deeply deplored “the spectacle of ridicule and mockery of Christianity.”
At the centre of widespread outrage is a re-enactment of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” that features drag queens in place of Jesus and the 12 apostles.
France’s bishops said they hoped Christians outside France would understand that “the Olympic celebrations go far beyond the ideological prejudices of a few artists.”
This is insanity. To open the event, they replace Jesus and his disciples at the Last Supper with men dressed as women. There are 2.4 billion Christians on the planet, and the Olympics wanted to shout it out to everyone right at the start of the event.

The bishops’ message echoed that of European Parliament member Marion Maréchal, who argued on social media that the sickening scene was not the product of the French people but of a far-left minority in France.
“To all Christians around the world who watched the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking, but a left-wing minority ready to respond to any provocation,” Maréchal said. Fellow Christians around the world, #Paris2024 If you attend the ceremony and feel insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking, but a left-wing minority ready to respond to any provocation. #NotMyName
