If you need another reason to be careful about using bug spray, here it is.
Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot told reporters he was hospitalized for 60 hours with a right knee infection caused by an insect bite and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
He thinks he was probably bitten by a spider.
“I’ve gotten bitten all the time, but this was the first time I’ve had my leg swell up so much I couldn’t put weight on it,” Pepiot told Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Florida.
According to Kevin Cash, the exact timing of a move for Pepiot, who was acquired in the trade that sent Tyler Glasnow to the Dodgers, has yet to be determined.
He is scheduled to throw bullpen balls this afternoon, but it is not yet clear if he will need to make any rehab appearances.
“It feels similar to the bruise on my leg that I had earlier,” Pepiot told Buss, “Just making sure my mechanics and everything is OK and there’s nothing else going on.”

Pepiot, 26, has posted a 3.92 ERA with 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings in 17 starts this season.
He missed his scheduled start last Tuesday at Toronto, his last appearance being a win over the Guardians on July 14.
