Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Harris’ background as a prosecutor is not a risk as she prepares to run for office against former President Trump.
Harris and her allies have touted her experience as a prosecutor and later as California’s attorney general, in contrast to the former president, who was convicted on criminal charges in New York earlier this year and faces numerous legal battles. CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Warren whether relying on her background was a risk to her campaign.
“Not at all. Kamala started her career as a prosecutor. She worked hard to arrest gang members and protect Californians. But look where it’s taken her and the Biden-Harris administration,” Warren said Sunday.
“What’s happened while they’ve been in power is we’ve increased resources for emergency responders, we’ve increased resources for police so they have the resources they need, but when there’s a 911 call, sometimes it should be a police officer responding, but sometimes it should be a social worker or a public health official who has to deal with a different kind of crisis,” she added.
Republicans have tried a variety of attack tactics against Harris since she launched her campaign for the White House last week after President Biden announced he was dropping out of the race and endorsing his running mate.
A pro-Trump super PAC plans to spend millions of dollars on attack ads against Harris ahead of her becoming a leading challenger to the former president in November. POLITICO One of the ads will reportedly focus on her time as a prosecutor in California.
