Scruggs beat Italy’s Alice Volpi in the semifinals and had hoped to beat Kiefer in the final to win her first gold medal, but had to settle for silver.

The two more medals brought the Americans’ total in Paris to 12. It was the team’s third gold medal, and Kiefer joined the men’s 4×100 meter freestyle team and swimmer Tori Huske in finishing among the top finishes for France.

Harvey defeated Volpi 15-12 to win the bronze medal.

It was the first medal of Harvey’s fencing career – she had previously won gold in the individual foil event at the 2022 Pan American Fencing Championships and silver in 2024.
