Hollywood celebrities are spreading a false rumor that former President Donald Trump would delegitimize the election if he returns to the White House.
Their plausible claim comes from a recent speech by the Republican presidential candidate urging Christians to flock to rallies in November, but important context was cut from the 27-second video clip.
“In four years, this problem will be solved. You won’t have to vote anymore. In four years, you won’t have to vote again,” Trump told an audience at Turning Point Action’s Believers Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday.
Celebrities have misinterpreted Trump’s comments to claim he would ban the election altogether. Trump said he needed to contribute to a “landslide victory that can’t be rigged” so that a second Trump administration could change election laws to require voter ID and reduce the need for mass voting to counter allegations of voter fraud. Out of context, the comments read:
I will make our elections secure. As I said, our goal is to one day vote with a paper ballot, proof of citizenship, and something called Voter ID. (Applause.) When I negotiate with Democrats, I always negotiate with them on this issue. I say, “If we’re going to fix our voting laws, we have to start with Voter ID.” And everybody says, “No way!” and the discussion doesn’t go any further.
I say we need voter ID. It’s called voter identification. “No, we’re not going to do that.” Now, there’s only one reason they would do that: Because they want to cheat. There’s only one reason.
You know, at their convention, they put voter tags that are bigger than your chest. It depends on whose chest it is. I like mine to be bigger than this. It has your name, serial number, middle name, past addresses, everything on it. You can’t get into the DNC without it.
But when it comes to voting, one of the most important things you can do — probably one of the most important things in many ways — they don’t want to approve voter ID, because they want to cheat. But until then, Republicans have to win. We have to win this election. It’s the most important election we’ve ever had. (Applause.)
We want a landslide victory that cannot be rigged. If you want to save America, get all your friends, family and acquaintances together and vote. Vote early, vote absentee, vote on Election Day. It doesn’t matter how. You’ve got to get out and vote.
And once again, Christians, go out and vote. Just this once. (Applause.) You don’t have to vote anymore. Four more years, guess what? The problem will be solved. You don’t have to vote anymore. My beautiful Christians. Christians, I love you. I am a Christian. I love you. Let’s go out. Let’s go out and vote. Four more years, you don’t have to vote anymore. We will solve the problem just fine. You don’t have to vote.
Since Friday’s speech, pro-Kamala stars including Rob Reiner, Mia Farrow and Barbra Streisand have been spreading Trump hoaxes to their millions of social media followers. Doctor Strange Director Scott Derrickson also spread that lie.
Breitbart News reported that the once-respected Atlantic Ocean Even magazines have joined in the game. “He is openly communicating his authoritarian intent,” says an article by writer Brian Klaas.
Rob Reiner falsely claimed that Trump had “vowed to destroy our democracy.”
YES! Donald Trump told a Christian gathering that if you vote for him this time, he will fix it so you never have to vote again. He made it very clear that he will destroy our democracy. Preserve 250 years of self-governance. Vote for Kamala!!!

Mia Farrow also spread the lie that Trump would stay in the White House forever.
This is America. I am warning you. This man and his cronies intend to take and keep power. Vote a resounding NO 🇺🇸 https://t.co/5vLXUsnPVm

Scott Derrickson, director of Disney’s Marvel superhero movies Doctor Strange — Falsely claiming that Trump would “remain in power until the day I die.”
Trump has told Christians that if he comes to power he will reshape our government to be a dictator who will not allow free elections. He will remain in power until he dies. He is a fascist who seeks to subvert our democracy by promising to protect Christians. https://t.co/wbwi3mgngH

If you want to vote again, and if you want to one day live in a country where your children and grandchildren can vote, you need to vote for Harris this November. https://t.co/lNnLqr57FJ

Their not-so-subtle tactics are part of the establishment’s continuing effort to smear Trump as an enemy of democracy and help voters forget that Democratic elites invalidated their own presidential primary, carried out a soft coup against President Joe Biden, and installed Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s presumptive nominee without receiving a single vote.
