Mitch Landrieu, national co-chair of Vice President Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign, on Sunday praised the VP’s progress since joining the Democratic top race and called on centrist voters to be part of “history” by supporting her campaign.
In an interview on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Landrieu criticized former President Trump’s pick for vice president, first-term Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), noting that more than a dozen cabinet members left the White House early during Trump’s first term.
“This is due to Donald Trump’s inability to pick people who can actually run the country,” Landrieu said.
“I think this is something that reasonable, thoughtful Americans who consider themselves moderates should consider, because they don’t want to see this country destroyed,” Landrieu added.
“We are all patriots, but we have to grab hold of our country. We have to make the right decision at the right time. History is calling you. Don’t let it slip away. Grab it and move forward,” he continued.
Landrieu, who oversaw the implementation of a historic infrastructure bill passed early in Biden’s term, touted the campaign’s progress after Biden announced he would no longer seek his party’s nomination for another term.
Landrieu said the Harris campaign had “one of the best weeks in politics in the last 50 years,” noting that the campaign raised $200 million, gained 150,000 new volunteers and held more than 2,000 events for Harris across the country on Saturday.
“When President Biden decided not to run again, the vice president joined the race. She’s stormed in. She’s taken off like a rocket and has her finger on the pulse of the country,” he said.
