Elizabeth Warren calls for granting citizenship to illegal immigrants, says Harris ‘will get that done’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) on Sunday called for creating a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants, arguing that Vice President Kamala Harris is the candidate who “can get it done.”

Warren made the remarks during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday morning with host Jake Tapper, who pressed her to defend the Biden-Harris administration’s historically unpopular immigration policies.

“It goes without saying that voters are overwhelmingly unhappy with the Biden-Harris administration’s approach to the border,” Tapper said. “By giving the nomination to one of the leaders of the border effort, aren’t Democrats putting even more pressure on one of their party’s greatest weaknesses?”

“The number of people crossing the border right now is lower than it was in the last year of the Trump administration. But I want you to recognize that this is ultimately a problem that Congress has to solve, and I think Senator Kamala Harris knows that,” Warren replied.

“We need steps to put more resources at the border, we need to put more resources into the states and cities that are helping immigrants. And I believe we need to create a pathway to citizenship. All of these are part of what we need to do for comprehensive immigration reform. Kamala Harris will work with Congress to get it done,” she added.

Former President Trump focused on the issue of illegal immigration throughout his election campaign, and under Biden, the number of migrants crossing the border has surged to unprecedented levels multiple times.

“The worst part is that Kamala Harris is willing to destroy every single protection that we have in order to stop them from voting,” Vance said at a rally in Minnesota on Saturday. “She’s trying to put control of this country in the hands of people who should never be in this country in the first place, and we cannot allow that. And I want to send a very simple message to the millions of illegal immigrants who should never be in this country: If you’re here, start packing right now, because Donald J. Trump is going to be back in office.”
